A vegan female graphic designer changing the ad world in Argentina
I no longer remember where I found Camila Pérez, but she must have posted in one of the vegan groups on LinkedIn. Whenever I see someone I don’t know in the marketing space who’s vegan, I pounce!
Let’s get to know Camila!
When and how did you go vegan?
I officially became vegan in 2019, a few months before the pandemic started. But looking back at my life, I started to ditch animal products without knowing what veganism was. I come from Venezuela, so from 2014–2017 the country was a mess (well it still is) but finding food was starting to become a problem, so dairy was one of the first things that I stopped consuming because I couldn’t find it and when I did, I just gave it to my grandma. She was a creature of habit, and she didn’t quite understand the gravity of the situation.
Then I immigrated to Argentina where all they do is eat meat and my body couldn’t sustain the amount of meat they eat here, so that was first my sign. There was also a time when I didn’t have a fridge, so that changed the game a lot and I started to cut back on meat. At that a time, the only animal related product I was eating was eggs and ham. Later a friend of mine recommended me to watch the documentary What the Health and that is when I decide to become a vegan.
How did you get into marketing, and what kind of marketing you do now?
I’m a graphic designer, so I’ve always had the responsibility of communicating through art the end product, whether or not it’s honest. The marketing I’m into right now is creating honest, ethical brands that are truly wanting to take care of Earth.
What kind of work fires you up right now?
Working with brands that are transparent and have a bit of compassion. Brands that are willing to promote responsible consumption and have actually positive environmental values they practice.
Share your best marketing win, and one marketing horror story.
My best was when people gave me compliments for trying to change the advertising world.
My horror story was when I was creating graphics for a non-vegan burger restaurant (I was already a vegan).
Who or what vegan company do you think is crushing in marketing right now?
Veganuary and a local brand from Argentina called luleå mindful.
