WHY YOU?

Communications is my life. I’ve been reading and writing since the age of three (which is close to four decades). I’ve published poetry in literary journals and have written and published blogs since 2006, many of which are on this website. 

After graduating with a degree in English Literature and Film Studies in 2005, I started my career in public relations (PR). From 2008 to 2018, I ran an award-winning virtual public relations agency, Conscious PR, in Vancouver. In 2012, I committed to working only with businesses that had a positive social or environmental impact. I certified my company twice as a B Corp, and was a member of 1% For the Planet, so I’m all about Corporate Responsibility & impact-driven work.

If you’re looking for more diverse partners/suppliers, I have a unique lens that gives me expertise on ethics and inclusivity in marketing communications. I’m a millennial and one of the few vegan women of colour in the world who write content and help authors publish books. 

I’ve been living vegan since 2018. If you’re looking to network with or get in front of more vegans, I’ll also use my vegan network connections to help you. Since 2019, I’ve self-published two books, one of which was the first vegan marketing book in the world.

WHAT’S ETHICAL, INCLUSIVE, AND VEGAN MARKETING?

ETHICAL MARKETING applies moral principles to marketing. It involves promoting a product, service, or brand in a way that aligns with ethics and values of honesty, fairness, and social responsibility. 

INCLUSIVE MARKETING includes strategies, tactics, and technologies that represent the diversity of the real world by including people from different backgrounds and groups. It uses images, words, and/or stories that unique audiences can relate to.

Ethical and inclusive marketing backfires when a brand attempts to promote social values and inclusivity, without a track record of honesty, social responsibility, equity, or diversity as a company.

VEGAN MARKETING is marketing that promotes a vegan business (free of cruelty to or exploitation of animals). It does not use animal products or byproducts or cruelty to/exploitation of animals in marketing messages.

DO YOU USE AI TO WRITE CONTENT?

Currently, I am not using an AI app to write content for clients. When I have a substantial enough client workload that would require more research and content, I will use a vegan-owned app called VEG3, for which I’m an affiliate.

You are also free to use AI and send me drafts of your content to edit so that the result reflects your brand voice. How well AI apps know how to speak to your audience in your company’s voice depends on how well you’re able to input information, which still requires a marketer’s mind (IMO).

Since 2021, I’ve used Otter.ai for voice to text transcription for ghostwriting clients. I love this because it’s as close to the client’s voice as we get.

WHAT'S YOUR PROCESS LIKE?

Unless you need help with a specific service and can tell me your budget, we’ll start with a complimentary discovery call. Contact me with a request for an initial consultation and a few times that work for you to meet (I’m in Pacific time).

If you need ongoing services or a project that will take a few months or more to complete, I’ll put together an agreement before I start the work.

Here is a link to my evolving portfolio so you can see the projects I’ve worked on and what my writing and editing style is like.

For single projects:

  • I’ll give you an estimate for the work. Tell me your budget to ensure I can work within that.
  • A project brief is much appreciated if you need help with content. It’s not impossible to start the work without one, but if my first draft is way off than what you wanted, there may be more revision rounds. That will add time and cost.
  • Once you’re happy with the final product, I’ll send my invoice over. I expect payment within the week. If you’re known to pay late, please find someone else to work with.

For ongoing services:

  • The minimum time period for written content services is three months for me to get a good understanding of your brand voice, message, and style.
  • We can arrange a consulting agreement on a monthly retainer.
*WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY "CRUELTY-FREE"?

Industry largely defines cruelty-free as “not tested on animals.” My definition includes freedom from unfair labour practices related to wages, work hours, or working conditions, or discrimination toward people of a certain race, gender, religious belief or other facet. It encompasses vegan businesses that are free of animal products, byproducts, animal testing, or exploitation of animals.

I will not produce content for companies or whose products are damaging to the health of living beings or the environment. If your company is not yet cruelty-free but you are transitioning to an ethical and vegan business, please let me know when you contact me. You can find my list of consultants/companies that help with business transitions on my List Love page.

If your business causes harm to people, animals, or the environment, please find someone else to work with.

DO WE NEED TO MEET?

No. Meetings aren’t necessary unless you hire me for ongoing treatments. In those cases, we’ll meet virtually on Zoom. I’ll send all written drafts to you to review online.

If you live in the Vancouver, BC area, we can meet in person if it’s necessary for the work.

I live and work on the traditional unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and səlil̓wətaʔɬ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) First Nations.

WILL WE GET ALONG?

My personality is more cool than warm. I’m an introvert. I like clear communication. I dislike people from the global majority who talk too much. Small talk is great for the first few minutes of our meetings, but after that, I like to get to the point. I stay quiet so I can listen. A lot. I have an unintentional resting bitch face (RBF), which means I’m listening intently to what you’re saying. This is especially important if I’m writing in your voice—it translates into well-written copy.

I’ve been called “mysterious” and “really quiet” for someone who is in communications. My words—and editing skills—are my weapons. 

People forget me, but I don’t forget anyone. I’m the small Asian woman who might stay quiet in a boardroom, but I listen to everything and respond when I need to. In the past, I’ve run a film festival with a team of a dozen people, so I’ve led groups when needed.

I’m down to earth and realistic, but I also believe in aliens and that the Divine is everything and everywhere. Everything I do in my life, including my business, is for the greater good of all living beings. I wouldn’t call myself an Intuitive, but when I write or edit for clients, I feel like I get “intuitive downloads” so if you’re into the woo, we’ll get along just fine!

I can only take on one publicity client at a time, either located in Vancouver or looking to get coverage in vegan/plant-based outlets only. Contact me for my availability.
