A forever vegan jazzing up marketing for non-profits & the music world
I met Marcio Pacheco at Planted Expo Vancouver after my talk and found out he lives about a two-hour drive south of me in Seattle, Washington. Let’s learn all about this tri-lingual (English, Spanish, Portuguese) vegan marketer!
When and how did you go vegan?
I’ve been vegan since I was a little child. My body could not tolerate eating anything other than plant-based foods. I’ve always been a very strict vegan and do not wear, support or ingest anything non-vegan.
How did you get into marketing, and what kind of marketing you do now?
I worked many years for Microsoft and managed several marketing and alliance programs. After I left, I decided to direct my creative efforts into social media advertising, focusing on non-profits, music festivals, and musicians. I’m a musician myself and was also very involved with non-profit efforts at Microsoft, with United Way and others and received a lot of training for operating in the non-profit space.
I’ve promoted the Earshot Jazz Festival in Seattle for the past 6 years and also promote local musicians, along with some others in Brazil. I was also involved with Front and Centered early in 2020 to help raise funds for an emergency COVID-19 Relief Fund to help BIPOC and Indigenous communities in Washington state. I only work with clients and companies that do not go against my strong vegan values.
What kind of work fires you up right now?
Creative video and music work and non-profit causes.
Share your best marketing win, and one marketing horror story.
My best marketing win is the Earshot Jazz Festival participation, which dramatically improved ticket sales and venue attendance after I started building and deploying the campaigns for the annual festival in 2019. We were also very successful during COVID-19 in 2020 when we went fully remote for safety reasons.
No horror stories to report.
Who or what vegan company do you think is crushing in marketing right now?
Beyond Meat has definitely been very successful. Slutty Vegan has also been in the news a lot, and has had a positive impact with founder Pinky Cole’s vegan message. In British Columbia, I like MeeT and Vegan Supply‘s posts.
