The nomads without a physical home and those choosing to move TO Vancouver!

While there’s no shortage of folks talking about leaving Vancouver, two of my family members are brave enough to have moved here. One of my cousins came without any notice and found a temp place to stay via Airbnb and then a room to rent and has been here for just under a month.

Another cousin is driving cross-country next month and taking his belongings with him. I’ll be the first to tell them that Vancouver isn’t the easiest city to live in, but bravo to them for committing! We need more commitment from folks here. While housing may be unaffordable, there are so many other perks to living here that you do need to experience to commit to staying.

I have been meeting more nomads who travel around the city, country, and world, avoiding the housing issue altogether and making it work nonetheless. Yesterday I read a CBC article about this couple who have a whole site and series called the Millennial Revolution. It’s about not going the traditional route of getting a job, buying a home, starting a family, and retiring with a pension but instead renting, saving, working at a place that’s meaningful, and travelling the world. While I don’t know if I completely agree with all of their recommended steps, I do envy the travelling aspect of their lifestyle, and I’m sure I can learn a lot from them about what they’ve done to achieve that success for themselves.
