This is an archived blog from when I ran Conscious Public Relations Inc. from 2008-2018. Excuse the potential outdated-ness!

I’ve blogged about family before, and mine deserves extra props this week. Since our wedding, we received some great news about my cousin wanting to move to B.C., and then last week celebrated the return of another cousin who hadn’t visited in 12 years. I’ve seen her grow from a child to a teenager (thanks to the Internet) and now she is a fully fledged adult — who’s caught the B.C. bug.

It made me realize how much being with family fills me up, and I have been looking externally for other ways to feel good. It reaffirmed that although it is difficult to live in Vancouver, this is my home and it’s magnetizing my family. Yesterday I heard the news of another cousin who had moved here without anyone knowing, simply because he hadn’t had any of our phone numbers. Thanks to Twitter, hopefully we will be having another reunion.

Besides just company, there is something very special about bonding with family. We share history, we share blood, memories, and this sense of connection that we can’t share with strangers, colleagues, or even best friends. It’s like there is this automatic generosity that is shared by family living in different continents at the dining table, and it gives me faith that we can spread the same love to others even if we are not family.

Is there a family member you need reconnecting with online — or best yet – face to face?
