What I learned from my recent wedding
Love wins.
I am back from my time off to get married, and I can safely say it was one of the most special experiences I’ve had in my life. I was expecting to get emotional, and I was expecting that not everything would go perfectly as planned, but I was not expecting to hear things from people – beautiful things – that I would never hear in everyday life, nor see people out of the context I usually see them in.
It was bizarre and wonderful, and I am thankful to my soul family for the work they did on the weather. The skies parted at the perfect time, and it showered later that evening as we rode home.
I admit that I have often rolled my eyes at weddings and how silly the entire process (and the involved costs, I might add) seems from the outside, but it is a completely different experience when it happens to you, and when you see the love and support from your family and friends pour in all in the span of 12 hours.
I didn’t expect to feel much different other than having a different last name, but I am definitely a changed woman and a fan of this particular rite of passage. I don’t think I’ll ever take other celebrations for granted ever again.
Be a fan of love. Tell the people around you how much you care for them because it matters. It wins.
