This is an archived blog from when I ran Conscious Public Relations Inc. from 2008-2018. Excuse the potential outdated-ness!
To the B Corps who’ve rallied, and the changemakers who work on a smaller level
It’s easy to forget when you’re in GO mode the amazing stuff that’s happening around you. Last Thursday I was invited to B Corporation‘s monthly breakfast here in Vancouver, which is a gathering of representatives from the B Corps in the city. It got me excited to join the community because they’re doing some pretty awesome stuff that’s hopefully going to get Vancouver on the map.
One of the beyond-cool announcements that B Corp (global) made just last week is that they are withdrawing the annual B Corp Champions Retreat this October from the originally planned location in North Carolina, in support of the LGBTQ community, unless the state repeals a newly enacted state law called HB2 which limits anti-discrimination protections.
What’s so awesome is that local PR company and B Corp. YULU PR is behind the announcement and Founder Melissa Orozco listed some heavy-hitting CEOs who are available to comment for media in support of the B Corp community. Talk about changemakers uniting!
On a smaller level, a few colleagues and I are cooking up something new that is hopefully going to hit Vancouver by storm. It’s not going to happen right away, but in the same way we hit the ground running with #SayHitoaStranger we hope that Vancouverites (and someday the world) will start to see small changes in their communities, until someone asks “How did this happen?” and then people finally realize what we’ve done with our city (instead of to it).
However you’re creating positive change in the world, celebrate it and know that you’re not alone.
