New features on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Twitter

Instead of going personal, I decided to do a recap post on some of the features that have popped up or are coming on a few social networks.

1. Facebook Live Video: Facebook is once again giving other networks a run for their money by competing with Periscope, Meerkat, Snapchat, and Vine. This feature should be rolling out soon in Canada. What’s cool is it’ll allow for people to engage with you during the video, similar to Periscope. I’m looking forward to experimenting with this one. Click here for more info.

2. Instagram Multiple Account Administration: For most of you this may not be a big deal, but for those of us in Marketing who may be handling various Instagram accounts, from our personal ones to our company’s and clients’, this is an absolute godsend. While people were using other apps to do this, I was patient and I knew Facebook would eventually come through. After I added multiple accounts I found it a bit tricky to find out how to switch, so just pay attention to the avatar you’re currently using in the bottom-right corner, and hold that sucker down. It’s cake from there. Click here for more info.

3. LinkedIn author URL change: Yesterday I got an announcement from LinkedIn that on March 8, 2016, our author URLs will be changing to LinkedIn.com/today/author/yourpersonalizedname. I actually never knew that there was a unique author URL for those of us who have used the post feature. So if you’ve been using this link as a way to market your LinkedIn Posts, you’ll want to make sure that’s changed on or after March 8.

4. Twitter Direct Messages to multiple people: This is older news, but I received my first mass DM yesterday and I wasn’t very pleased. Unless you use Twitter DM internally with your company staff or on a personal level, I’d highly advise against it because it’s pretty much spam when you use it like this person did, below.

What other news have you heard in the social media world lately worth sharing?
