To those who practice truth and love, because most of us don’t.

I learned a lot Friday and Sunday so it’s a good thing that Saturday was a pretty mellow day.

On Friday, the world heard of the Paris attacks and mourned for those whose lives were taken so horribly. While images like the above were shared thousands of times along with the changing of profile photos filtered with the colours of the French flag, others demanded why, when attacks were happening in other parts of the world, no one – including the media – seemed to pay much attention.

It’s amazing how truth can be used to define love and fear so distinctly.

Yes, violence and death happens every day in the world, and no one cares. No one covers it. No one seems to love. But I don’t think it’s that we don’t love, I think it’s that it’s so much easier to ignore. Just as people went into shock as they were splashed with the blood of the collapsing bodies in front of them, I don’t think we can handle the truth as it is. It is much easier to stay in fear than stay in love.

I thought about a Facebook status I posted last week that was just meant to gather data on what women in the Western world would like more of in terms of gender equality to men. I could just feel the fear in some of the responses. And I wondered why we couldn’t just love ourselves and men AND also fight for the things we are fighting for. I think that it is too difficult to fight for good and to love. Again, because we’re so used to being fearful while we’re fighting. I am almost positive that the former is what’s needed, but it seems so impossible.

I have felt both sides these last couple of days. I want to hate the killers. But I want to love everyone, even them. I want to know the truth about what men think of women or what people think of me, but I don’t think I’m fearless enough to accept it.

We’ve got a long way to go, but one thing I know for sure is that BOTH truth and love are the way. Period.
