Take a break from social media sometimes!
A rather big life event happened last Saturday – Leo proposed and I said yes!

Leo and my bestie Gail teamed up to get me to a specific spot in town – the end of the dock at River District, to be exact. She played a video that he had made on her iPad, and it became clear after a few minutes where it was headed. I was in shock, but I have to say it was all worth the roller coaster of emotions. I’ve known that Leo and I would be ‘in it’ together for a while, but reaffirming my commitment in this way made it feel more special, and stronger.
I could have posted on social media right away and shared the news with the “world” (my social networks), but I felt that this was one of those memories that he and I had to share ourselves in the moment. We told our families and our close friends, and I wanted to relax for most of the long weekend, so I avoided going onto social media until Monday night. Then I posted on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook Tuesday morning.
You can be one of those people who savours the memory by documenting it all in real time, but some memories are meant just for you and not for the entire world. They can know about it eventually (three days later, in my case). And I also speak from experience when I say that a social media ‘detox’ can do wonders for your health too. All of the news, facts and goings on is a lot to take in mentally, so I would advise that you take a break (at least two full days) from social media once in a while. Trust me!
Do you take regular social media detoxes throughout the year?
