On feeling victorious without achieving

I’m sure I have talked about this before, but this past week it has been highlighted through my struggles with the second business.

I was placed in a new group to help with my goal of selling dresses at my new business, Rescued Clothing Company. We are very much in the startup phase but our first set of dresses are now in production. The thing is, Sarah and I have accomplished a lot these last 9 1/2 months to get to this point. But that is nothing new. She and I are used to achieving.

What has been a newer experience is trying to feel that feeling of success without achieving the results. To push on the challenge of helping me to identify my emotional and mental goals as a result of achieving my physical goal (selling dresses) my coach asked last week, “At the end of your life do you want to have a bunch of results and money, or have lived a rich and fulfilling life?

I became emotional for the next two days (ta-da!) thinking about this because I realized that I want the feeling of the latter, but I don’t know how to do that without accomplishing the first thing. Again, the confusing of being by doing.

My personal coach got me to identify what it means to have a rich and fulfilling life and it ultimately came down to an emotion, which I have the capacity to actually feel now.

I went through last week just sitting in this great feeling and doing the rest of my work in it which felt more present, connect, and purposeful. I didn’t care about what goals I would accomplish in the business… the funny thing is, I got most of them done anyway.

It’s a foreign thing to me, to feel this before having achieved the result. But I think this is what we are striving for in the end, only we use so many things… work, food, sex, relationships, books, motivational speakers, etc. to try and get there, when we have the capacity to feel it here and now.

What do you do to feel that feeling of achievement despite the results?
