Consider demand for a change in your products/services

It was another great and humbling experience to speak at last night’s CRAVEfuel event at JAC by Jacqueline Conoir.

I was struck by the story of one of the attendees, who is offering a service and is being asked to do the service but in a much more creative way. This would force her to be more engaging and one-on-one with her clients, which is a new but exciting step.

I could not help but think about the difference between a job and a brand. A job is what you do. A brand is who you are. And when you have customers or clients coming to you and saying “I like what you are doing… but what about THIS?” it forces you to think about things. Do you change or do you stay the way you are?

Your brand is who you are either way, but isn’t it so much better when you can appease your clients AND make a bit more money? This was the case when I decided last year to begin offering Social Media Management in addition to more traditional media relations services. The result has been more work, more experience and learning, and more money.

And I feel that I am running a much more capable company (hello, delegation!) rather than being narrow and single-minded and being forced to only go one way and do everything. This has been my path for the last 6 years and so funny when I think that just when I have started to change things up, business has started to skyrocket.

Are you running a business in which your clients or customers are demanding more of you? Are digging in to your intuition for the answer? (Hint: Say YES and you can always say no later!)
