This is an archived blog from when I ran Conscious Public Relations Inc. from 2008-2018. Excuse the potential outdated-ness!
I was never into JAY-Z in the ’90’s hip hop explosion, but am running his songs constantly now since I’ll be attending the concert with him and Justin Timberlake next month. There is something about his lyrics combined with the right music that makes you feel invincible. I’m determined to have a playlist that I listen to every time I go to a business meeting, as I can come off as a bit low energy even when I’m excited (it’s a tamed enthusiasm).
GOOD posted a blog a few months ago about a guy named Jay Shells in NYC who runs the Twitter account @TheRapQuotes with his brother. They tweet out lyrics they think are extraordinary. He then proceeded to post some street signs with lyrics in different areas in New York, as part of a street art project. Brilliant.
I wonder if this would fly in Vancouver; I know the signs would be taken down eventually, but not after hundreds of people would get the chance to Instagram it. Heck, Mayor Gregor is known to do some spinning so maybe he would even want them up there, as long as they don’t have any profanity.
I think we need more inspirational quotes in the city though, like Margaret Mead’s on the side of The Foundation’s building. I’ve had enough of the confusing murals. (Sorry artists, it’s just not my thing.)
