This is an archived blog from when I ran Conscious Public Relations Inc. from 2008-2018. Excuse the potential outdated-ness!

It’s crazy to think that a business can be so personal. But this is the first thing that branding experts ask: If your brand was an animal/person/colour what would it be?

The concept behind Conscious PR came to me in 2009 when I was sitting in Vancouver’s SOHO Conference. I thought about how great it would be to use my Publicity experience for the greater good. And I rewrote a new mission statement for my company, Middle Child Marketing Inc., and saved it on my iPhone.

Months or a year later, I literally deleted the idea as I began pursuing more lifestyle clients. It seemed to me that the image of working with clients in a certain industry would be better for my bottom line and reputation than trying to chase after companies who might want to do PR surrounding their events or efforts that benefited the community.

In 2011 I worked with an amazing Intuitive Coach who introduced me to a new and very different networking event than the hundreds I’d attended in the last few years. And through that I met the founders of the Conscious Divas, who hosted the Vancouver stop of Gabrielle Bernstein‘s Spirit Junkie book tour. Reading this book led me to pick up my copy of Tolle’s A New Earth as well as a few others in my library and on my to-read list. My intuition grew and grew and grew, until it was clear that something about my life had to change.

I came up with the idea of Conscious PR, which was very similar to what I’d conceived two years back. I brainstormed for months about how it would work, since I’d already spent close to four years building up my current brand.  It all came to me while driving home on November 3rd, 2011, and that night all the ideas flowed onto my computer screen, including me buying the domains that night and envisioning a Star Activation logo on my business card and website (visit Lotus Destiny to find out all about that).

It’s been a long road from imagining to making Conscious PR real. But this is what I love about my job. After 30 years of life, I learned that I had always cared about the world and had a knack for writing good stories. It was just a matter of combining my passion and skill into a business that could make a difference.

The Province
‘I don’t want a war’ piece from the 3rd grade published in The Province Newspaper January 17, 1991

I wonder if all the great CEOs of the world feel like they are doing what they’re meant to do when they first create a business brand. At least, this is what I feel like now.

Of course, the success of my business depends on the clients who work with me and how well we’re able to communicate our messages to the media and to the world. But this isn’t my first rodeo, so there’s no need to feel fear. I want Conscious PR to be a fear-free brand.

I promise all of my blogs won’t be this long… it’s the first, so you’d expect it to be epic, right? My goal is to blog daily on good news here or on other clients and trends in the PR industry on my blog.

That’s it for now. Time to do some yoga and eat vegan food.

With love and light,

Sandra
